Applications of BBa_J100248

Our application of the osmBp2 promoter was successful. When inducing the promoter with osmotic shock (0.6 M of NaCl) there was a statistically significant difference between the two other colonies of cells that were not exposed to osmotic shock (p-values of 0.0002 and 0.0001 respectively). The red fluorescence of the induced condition was greater than both of the other colonies as well as the negative control. There is, however, an issue with the amount of fluorescence found in the negative control as it is much higher than expected. We believe this could have been a result of possible human error in the early stages of the the experimental design. A possible source of error could have come from accidentally keeping the same tip on the pipet between two of the petri dishes, contaminating the control. Our p-value for the experimental and the negative control of 0.0001 would lend support to the theory of contamination as the difference is statistically significant.
